INDUCTING AN INDIVIDUAL INTO THE COS HALL OF FAME IS ONE OF THE HIGHEST AWARDS THE COLLEGE OF THE SEQUOIAS CAN PRESENT TO SOMEONE. IT IS RESERVED FOR THOSE THAT HAVE MADE SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE BETTERMENT OF THE COLLEGE OF THE SEQUOIAS, THE COMMUNITY, AND SOCIETY IN GENERAL. THE CONTRIBUTIONS TAKE MANY FORMS BUT ALWAYS REFLECT POSITIVELY ON THE COLLEGE.

The College of the Sequoias is inducting four new Hall of Fame members on Thursday, October 10th: Ralph Homan, Earl Mann, Liz Wynn, and John Zumwalt.

The induction ceremony and dinner is be held from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Dr. Thomas S. Porter Field House on the COS Visalia campus. The public is invited. Tickets to attend the dinner and induction ceremony are $50 and may be purchased online HERE or by phone by calling 559.730.3861.

2019 Inductees

Each year the College of the Sequoias inducts alumni that have demonstrated what it is to be a COS Giant. Inductees have provided notable contributions to their profession and their community and otherwise serves. The 2019 COS Hall of Fame inductees include:

Ralph Homan (awarded posthumously)
Ralph touched the lives of thousands of people during his 38 years of teaching. He worked at Divisadero Middle School as an Art Teacher and a Professor at the College of the Sequoias teaching classes in painting/drawing and Art History. While at COS, he was in charge of the Art Gallery and was the Art Department Chair. Ralph was also a Professional Artist from 1956-2005.

Earl Mann
Mr. Mann served as the elected COS Trustee of Ward 3 for 18 years. He the lives of thousands of people during his 33 years as a teacher and administrator in Woodlake. He also taught evening and summer photography classes at COS. Earl was very active in his community of Woodlake, which he served as the Chairman of the Charter Committee, served on the Redevelopment Committee and 8 years as a Woodlake High Board of Trustee. He served as the President of the TCOVE Board and was a COS Board of Trustee for 18 years. Earl received the CTA State Award.

Mr. Mann was nominated by the three fellow trustees still serving on the COS Board of Trustees since Mr. Mann’s retirement in 2018.


Elizabeth “Liz” Wynn
Liz has created some great legacies within several local organizations. She worked at Quad/Knopf as Vice President/Planner III; First Church of the Nazarene as Administrative Pastor; Visalia Economic Development Council as Interim Director; Self Help Enterprises as Assistant Program Manager; Gold Creek Community Church as Director; Visalia Emergency Aid Council as Executive Director; and currently working at Kaweah Delta Hospital District Foundation as Director.

John Zumwalt
​Mr. Zumwalt served as the elected COS Trustee of Ward 5 for 24 years and is a successful business owner in Hanford. In 1973 he began his own business, Zumwalt-Hansen & Associates, and continues to have that business today. John was also on YMCA Board of Directors 1976-1992 C O H Parking & Traffic Commission 1984 – 1998; C O H General Plan Advisory Commission, chairman 1994, Building Industry of Tulare/Kings County, Chairman 2011. John’s business was awarded the 2008 Business of the Year from the Hanford Chamber of Commerce. He was also awarded the Building Industry of Tulare/Kings County Member of the Year in 2011. Mr. Zumwalt was nominated by the three fellow trustees still serving on the COS Board of Trustees since Mr. Zumwalt’s retirement in 2018.
